After completely flailing for 8 sessions I discovered how to wing foil with ease in sessions 9 and 10. In this first video I explain what didn't work for me and then I show and explain what did work and why it works. The second video I talk about safety and danger in offshore winds, and in the third video I explain what I did when the wind was coming from the opposite direction.
Also I added a video of my wing foil session log from my first 60 sessions, no foiling video just me showing and talking about my notes and how my first 60 sessions went.
For reference I am 6'6" tall and weigh 200 pounds, regular foot (left foot forward) is my strong or natural stance. At the bottom of this page I list my kite/wing/gear size for a given wind range. 8 videos.

I’m stoked. These videos are designed to show you how to foil. To give you the information I wish I had when I was learning to foil. The videos show and explain each skill and maneuver needed to successfully foil. Shown in close up detail, I go frame by frame and explain what to do and why it works. This video course shortens the foil learning curve, making the learn to foil journey easier and more enjoyable. I will post the newest videos at the bottom of the page, or click here to see a chronological listing of these learn to foil videos.
Steep take offs can be scary and dangerous on a foil, and also super fun, exciting, and satisfying.
Getting hucked over the falls, face planting, and then getting run over by the foil is not fun.
In these videos I show how I make steep drops in overhead powerful waves, the technique works for me in any size waves. I also use this technique on downwinders and wing dinging. The second technique I show is how to catch waves that seem uncatchable or that barely break.

Breaching, or flying the foil out of the water usually leads to a fall and or missing the wave.
In these videos I talk about the how and why of breaching and the technique I use to keep the wing down and in the water.

The three times I hurt myself learning to foil were due to roll falls and my inability to fall safely. In these videos I explain what a roll fall is, how they happen, how to fall safely, and how to prevent.

In these videos I explain hip movement and its effect on the foil and altitude, for me this is a crucial skill or movement required for foil surfing.

In these videos I show and explain foot placement, both front and back and left to right, in relation to the front wing and how this effects foil control. I also explain the why and when I move the mast instead of my feet and what effect this has on foiling. For me foot placement has been crucial to have precise control and fly the foil wherever I want. When my feet are out of place or I don't know where my feet are in relation to the front wing I flail and crash.

In this first video I explain the 3 axis of foiling: Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. This second video I give an overview or breakdown of what happens as I catch a wave and begin to foil. I explain how the wings function and how to navigate down the face of a wave and complete a ride.

After several attempts I figured out how to make this DIY 360 camera pole or paddle mount to capture the look of a drone or "follow me" tracking video shot. When foil surfing I am often riding for 500 to over 1000 yards making it difficult to video the entire ride, and even more so to capture any close up detail. This homemade pole mount allows me to catch and ride waves normally AND video myself, my gear, and the wave in full detail.
Here are videos showing the paddle pole cam mount I use regularly, and the removable pole mount that I lend to friends (can be mounted to any paddle including adjustable length paddles). The first video is an overview of the 360 camera mounts, second and third videos go in depth on how I made the mounts, and the fourth video shows how I mount a 360 camera near the blade of a paddle. Full parts list and where to buy everything needed is also included in this post.
